Animation Projects

It's one thing to conceive a character or environment and its another to fully articulate and express how that character would behave once fully animated. Here are just a few tests and finalized projects that show just that.

Outpaws was a completely independent project stemming from a two word brief of "Animal Western". The concepts for the characters revolved around the classic standoff between the animal kingdoms greatest rivals, the feline and the canine. Using classic designs of a rugged old sherriff were akin to the look of a terrier's sinature muzzle. And the role of a slick and sly outlaw was oh so befitting for the omenous and mythical black cat. The short is a contained story on the dangers of underestimation and was a great stepping point to continue on the tale of 'Snake Eyes' the top cat of the west. I used a layered puppet bone animation system in Adobe animate to bring these puppets to life in smooth 2D animation.

This flour sack animation (a staple of many art schools)was one of my first tests in doing hand drawn, frame by frame animation that could demostrate character expression through movement and application of the principles of animation. Such principles include squash and stretch, anticipation & follow through and exaggeration.
